peace

Recently, I came across a video of a youth orchestra and choir. And in those young earnest faces, I wish to see the hopes of the coming year. Not a kid cradling a kalashnikov in some ruined town, or one begging for food in some urban slum. 2017's path has been lined with bramble and bracken. We fight beasts with puny weapons. Lies are taken as truths. This has been the terror of uncertain days. One more mistake. Just one more! The Pinball Machine tilts! And it is game over, no reset buttons, no credit slots.

Have a safe and peaceful 2018, friends!

peace

the dawn light lands on my face and slides across the worn linoleum floor.

peace.

I think in these troubling times we have to find these peaceful and earnest scenes -- like that of the youth orchestra and choir. We cannot let them be overtaken by more troubling scenes. We cannot lose hope as we work for a more peaceful time for all. Always good to see you!

I have hope that 2018 will be a lot better than 2017... indeed there is so much at stake so it simply has to improve.

Your haiku is gentle and beautiful, peace in itself.
I do hope 2018 proves better - it has to!

Holding onto hope is my saving grace...as the light is turning and the full moon is illuminating that which is true and good....may we find that peace in 2018!

Sadly we are but consumers on puppets strings that will see the truth only when it is too late
assuming we will jump on a spacecraft and live happily on a nearby dead planet nearby. What fools we are.

Sherry,

it was an image from my younger days, when my life seems to be in limbo. i was trying to write a new year poem when the image just flashed across the mind. :)

Anna,

thank you! Have a Happy New Year! :)

Donna,

i think in such tough times, it is good to hold onto hope.
Have a Happy New Year! :)

Sanaa,

thank you! wishing you light and joy too. :)

Sarah,

Thank you for visiting. Happy New Year!

Toni,

thank you! may all our wishes be granted in the new year.

Robin,

i think consumerism has made slaves of most of us. like it or not, it is hard to escape the clutches of it. unless, yes, we are on a nearby dead planet. even then, we may not be too surprised to see a billboard there.
let's can it for a while and look forward to the new year. Cheers! :)

It's gorgeously written, all of it. I think you could make it a haibun (shifting the happy new year message to a separate thing, after the haiku).
